Well, the lights are up, and Clark Griswold has nothing on me! That’s right, the whole neighborhood turns out for it—Psst! Joe’s getting his ladder and lights out. Call the neighbors and tell ‘em the annual tailgate party is on! Oh, you thought I meant the display? Naw, I was talking about the installation. That’s the real show! The hanging, the festive festooning, the acrobatics, the daring, the DRAMA! Actually, Christmas décor and I go way back. I even remember a lil’ incident out in the garage a few years back involving a demon-possessed tree stand and an innocently bystanding but way-too-conveniently-close and empty clothes basket. And, in case you think I’m kiddin’ about that “demon possessed” thing, I have a theory. You know that one teensy bulb that pops and blows out the rest of the strand? Is it possible that the Apostle Paul had just about had his fill of Christmas torch lighting (the fuses on them rascals must’ve been something else) when he wrote, “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14, NASB)? Seriously, though, without the lights where would we be? Uh, in the dark. So, for your seasonal and spiritual enjoyment, I offer a “trail” of lights... …The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? (Ps. 27:1) …Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you (Isaiah 60:1) …Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever…It is He who knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells in Him (Daniel 2:20, 22) …In Him was the life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overpower it (John 1:4-5) …Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12) …For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6) …Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:7-8) …Joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:12-13) …Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow (James 1:17) …And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5) …And the city (New Jerusalem) has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb…And in the daytime (for there shall be no night there) its gates shall never be closed (Revelation 21:23,25).
